If you want to drill beats at a more sociable volume level and keep things sweet with the housemates and neighbours, there are a fair few options open to drummers. You could fit your kit out with a set of mesh-heads or practice pads. You could invest in an electronic kit or treat the room with sound isolation. But, while there are plenty of fixes to choose from, many of them cost money, time, and effort.
The Tama BSQ10S Soft Sound Beater
Keeping things as simple as possible, Tama present the smart Soft Sound kick drum beater. Installed in about ten seconds, this beater efficiently dampens the sound of any standard kick drum, dropping the volume while retaining the playing feel of a normal beater, which is not just a great fix for rehearsals, but smaller gigs as well.

Ik heb deze beater gekocht omdat mijn huidige vilten beater op mijn elektronische drumstel alsnog veel geluid maakt. Ik was op zoek naar een beater die elektronisch geluid kon opwekken, zonder akoestisch daar teveel van te horen. Nadat ik een tijd op internet had rondgezocht of deze beater daarvoor geschikt was, maar niks had kunnen vinden, heb ik de gok gewaagd en dit product aangeschaft.
Helaas heeft het niet het resultaat gegeven wat ik zocht. Het akoestische geluid is wel flink gedaald, echter zijn de slagen ook te zacht om duidelijk een elektronisch geluid op te wekken, ondanks dat gevoeligheid van de kick pad maximaal staat.
kortom, voor een elektronisch drumstel alleen geschikt wanneer je helemaal geen geluid meer wilt horen.
Over geschiktheid voor een akoestisch drumstel kan ik niet oordelen.

Voor een akoestische drumset prima geschikt. Wel wat groot uitgevallen, voor een twinpedaal derhalve ongeschikt, dan moet je 2 kleinere beaters aanschaffen, wat ook mogelijk is bij Tama en bij Bax. En achteraf had ik dat ook moeten doen. Maar qua (stille) sound prima geschikt om stil te oefenen op mijn bass drum techniek.
